NOTICE OF ELECTION

Nominations for the following City Council positions will be placed on the May 19, 2026 primary election ballot:

   Councilor, Ward #1      

 Councilor, At Large Position #2    

 Councilor, At Large Position #3    

 Any registered elector who wishes to file as a candidate for Milton-Freewater City Council may do so at the City Recorder’s office, City Hall, 722 South Main, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Filing will be no earlier than January 9, 2026 and no later than March 3, 2026 for ELECTED INCUMBENTS.

Filing will be no earlier than January 9, 2026 and no later than March 10, 2026 for other than Elected Incumbents.

Any registered Milton-Freewater elector may become a candidate for any elective office to which he or she is constitutionally eligible by filing a declaration of candidacy as provided by Milton-Freewater Ordinance No. 772, and paying a filing fee of $5.00.

City Council

The City of Milton-Freewater governing body is a 7 member City Council and Mayor. Three council members are elected by their respected wards and three are elected at large. The mayor is elected by city wide popular vote and represents the City government at official functions, chairs meetings of the Council and in the event of a council tie, votes to break the tie. Council meets on the 2nd Monday at 7 p.m in the Council Chambers, located in the Albee Room of the City Library, 8 S.W. 8th Avenue.  Day to day operations of the City are directed by City Manager Chad Morris.

Public Meeting Law (PML) Grievances

City of Milton-Freewater meeting bodies, including the City Council and all boards and committees, are subject to Oregon's Public Meeting Law (PML).  Violations of the PML should be reported through the grievance process outlined by state law and the Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC).  To report a violation of the PML by a City of Milton-Freewater meeting body, submit a written grievance statement to the office of the City Recorder by email to leanne.steadman@milton-freewater-or.gov, in-person at City Hall, 722 S. Main, Milton-Freewater on regular business days between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or mail to City of Milton-Freewater, PO Box 6, Milton-Freewater, Oregon 97862.

 

 

 

Council Agenda

Council Agenda is set on the Wednesday prior to the scheduled meeting. Citizens may approach the City Council with concerns not on the agenda by stating their name and address and limiting their presentation to no longer than 5 minutes.

Adopted Minutes of Past Meetings

Council minutes of each meeting are adopted at the next following meeting. Minutes will not be published until officially adopted. Council minutes of the past 12 months are also available here.
