CITY OF MILTON-FREEWATER HAS PLANNING COMMISSION, LIBRARY BOARD, BUDGET COMMITTEE AND RECREATION COMMITTEE OPENINGS FOR CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS

 

The City of Milton-Freewater is seeking interested volunteers to serve on the City's various committees and boards.

 

These committees serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations to the City Council. Volunteers must be citizens residing within the boundaries of Milton-Freewater city limits.

 

The following is a list of vacancies which the City is seeking to fill.

PLANNING COMMISSIONTwo (2) openings for a four-year term, One (1) vacancy for a one-year term, and One (1) vacancy for a three-year term beginning in February 2026.  Commission members meet the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.  The commission acts on issues involving the zoning code.  One member may reside outside the City limits, but must be a resident of the Urban Growth Boundary.  Members are appointed by the Mayor with approval of the City Council.  This position also requires a Statement of Economic Interest be filed with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission once a year.

LIBRARY BOARDOne (1) opening for a four-year term to begin in February 2026. Board members serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council, City Manager and Library Director concerning all matters relating to policy and management of the Library. The Board meets every last Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m.  Board members must be residents of the City.  Members are appointed by the Mayor, with approval by the City Council.

BUDGET COMMITTEE:  One (1) opening for a three-year term and two (2) vacancies for a two-year term to begin in February 2026. The budget committee is composed of the governing body and an equal number of electors appointed by the governing body. An elector is a qualified voter. The Committee convenes in the spring of each year to consider the preliminary budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Most are evening meetings. The Committee makes recommendations to the City Council who adopts the budget. Budget Committee members must be residents of the City.  Members are appointed by the Mayor, with approval by the City Council.

RECREATION COMMITTEE:       One (1) vacancy for a one-year term to begin in February 2026. Members serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council making recommendations on matters concerning the City’s parks, aquatic center, golf course, ball fields and other recreational facilities and programs. The Committee meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m.  Recreation Committee members must be residents of the City.  Members are appointed by the Mayor, with approval by the City Council.

All Committee and Board appointments are non-paid positions. Interested citizens are asked to submit an application to the City Recorder by: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
