Sixteen
years ago a group of famous authors put together a band
and staged a concert to raise funds to fight censorship.
You can experience that historic event Friday evening, May
2, when
The
Rock Bottom Remainders come to Oldies Night @
The Library. Stephen King, Amy Tan, Dave Barry, Barbara
Kingsolver, and Robert Fulghum were among the rich and
famous writers who were part of the band. They performed
rock 'n' roll hits from the '50s and '60s, including "Sea
of Love"; "Louie, Louie"; "Bye Bye Love"; "Nadine", and "Da
Doo Ron Ron".
A music video, now out of
print, preserves that event, and it will be screened as
part of Oldies Night. Also included will be the original
hit recordings of the Remainders' repertoire by artists
including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers,
the Kingsmen, and the Crystals.
