Community Development
The Community Development Department of the City is headed by City Manager Linda Hall. Other members are Mike Watkins, Supervisor, Gina Hartzheim, City Planner and Sharame Marlatt, Assistant.
The Community Development Department provides the overall management and coordination of the various community development functions, including promotion of City sponsored events and activities. The Department assists with many other community functions as well, such as the tree lighting ceremony held in December each year, the Muddy Frogwater Festival held the third weekend in August in Yantis Park, and the Carvin' by the Blues Chainsaw Carving Competition held the third weekend in July.
As part of the Community Development Department, the Planning Department oversees the administration of the City's Zoning and Development Code. The Department also is in charge of the Business License Program. Since its inception in 2003, funds received for business licenses have been used to help fund new Christmas decorations throughout the business districts in the City.
What are the frogs all about? We are often asked this question! The frog brand was adopted by the City as a spin off of the City's long running festival, The Muddy Frogwater Festival. The Community Development Department is instrumental in promotion of the City's frog brand throughout the City. Click here for pictures of frog art around town.
